V/GR = Vintage Gas Rails. Few of us in Glasgow just like to build stuff. It's all about the fun and we decided this could be about as enjoyable as it gets. I see 3 of these for sure coming out of our camp. The slowest fun you've ever had. It ain't about how fast you go. it's how you go fast. chassis is good to 9.99 in the 1/4 for NHRA. Engines are pre-1962 inline 6's or flathead v8's. No electronics, can run tach, but no shift light. 6" max width on rims, and period correct bias, wide whites on the back. Clutch only, no automatic transmission. cars will likely run 10.0@75mph in the 1/8th. More to come.

well, we're underway. we settled on the round front axle. Will be part of the frame, welded solid. Hermie and Patch are and sand blasting everything as we speak. tidy things up a bit. I personally would use a different rear tire tread design, but that is just an opinion. Dano

I've kind of buddied up to an Horse tech guy. I've been having him look over the ideas for these altered dragsters. Here's some important safety information. Even if we could cert the chassis, why would we. I say we go with the stuff that looks good. We're starting on Patch's dragster this week. He scrounged up a cool old "running" flathead engine... Man, that's gonna look cool. ;D I'm goofy, frankly. "...Based on what I have read in your rules, the driver suit requirements are as follows:
1- No helmet with face shield meeting Snell 2000 or later. 2- Head sock or skirt on helmet or neck collar to cover the skin area of the driver's throat. 3- SKI jacket meeting 3.2A/1 minimum. 4- SKI gloves meeting 3.3/1 minimum. 5- Arm required The driver's safety gear is based on no rules. and MPH, however they are also based on the body style, type of body and the sex of driver. Open bodied cars do require clothing more gear at lesser E.T. and MPH....". So is this car done yet?? Started project on the 27th of Oct.

Can't rush "the accumulation of parts" process. as an example, I'm putting spokes on the front of mine, they got here today, Stilleto spindles. takes time to find all the goods. Cowl steering took a while too. Just got to be at the first drag event to be on-time. I'm guessing there will be some decent progress in the weeks to come. Plus, one of us needs to make a run to Williston and buy some correct "certifiable" tubing for the cage.

Made the Good Evening Glasgow tonite. Good press for the track too. May I introduce "the Herminator", the car a group of us got together and built from the ground up here in Glasgow, body panels and all. old school dragster build. Figure around 1949-1953 era. Rigid chassis with a 292 inline 6 in it. The comprimise to the original designs of "the day" is that we had to make the cage up to current NHRA specs. Still though, can't wait to see it run. It was on the trailer ready to go the last race day, was raining here, so we didn't drive over.. DANG IT!!!!

Bob Very cute is that tire smoke or tired smoke in the videos. How about staight pipes like the first picture of the thread and some old school cheater slicks. Rick Lot of "tired smoke". ...lol... We worked on a few things we feel will limit the smoke a bit. At least you know it's getting lubrication when it's smoking.... ;D Head is off now, and we discovered a blown head gasket, so that's a good find. Patch'll Get that ironed out too. Gonna eventually have zoomie pipes and some multi-carb intake, we can get flanges, so we just need to whip those parts up. In my minds eye I'm seeing 2 set of 44mm downdraft webbers like off an old Volkswagen bug. No slicks. The great equalizer and saver of this class is that you just can't put the power down through that 6" tire. Keeps you from putting to much money in the engine. Once you put slicks on it, it's a slow altered, and no longer a true vintage dragster. At least my minds eye. There are guys with similar builds but BIG horsepower engines, stuff in the 350 horsepower range that can dip a mid 11 @125 on those 6" tires with a manual transmission. But it's only 1-2 guys with that kind of knowledge, dyno time, and spare time it takes to build an inline 6. Every body else seems to be enjoying the "slow" vintage car with 120-150whp as is. Ideally, it should have a manual transmission so as to add the complexity of shifting into the equation to make it more entertaining and also frustrating for the driver. If it's to easy to drive, a person isn't gonna have any fun. I'm debating the outlawing of a shift light. We're curious as HECK as to what it's gonna run. According to Patch's "ass dyno", it's faster than he thought it was gonna be... for what that's worth. We were ready for the last event, but thought it got rained out, so we didn't make it. That means we have 2 more weeks to do a little additional "tuning and upgrades'. Stuff like a carb kit, getting the radiator and valve cover painted with real paint. Addressing a small leak in the radiator that popped up. Found some bias ply tires for the front, Tightening the valves. Tightening and enhancing the steering. Piddly time consuming stuff. I'm ready to start on the next dragster. I picked up a few engines and transmissions over the weekend in Helena. Along with a dana-60 with a detroit locker in it, and a 4:11 gears. Might be to steep a gear is my only concern for an engine that turns 3500 with a 32" tire. Picture below... Race cars, waiting to be built. ;D

Engine is out of the digger and she's getting overhauled. Hopefully will be smoke free this next weekend. taking .030 off the deck too. New pistons and cam are on the way!! Before the work, 9.4@74.1 and 9.2@72 New prediction after improvements, 8.52@80.4I nailed that 74mph prediction last time. ;D Good thing Ratikal didn't bet me on that. ...lol... Stupid in-line 6 motor putting smiles on our faces...
