I've been reading up on parachutes. And everybody agrees that in order for them to be effective, they need to used now and again, not permanently packed and hope that "when" you need it years from now it's fine. My question for the track crew is this. For the most part we don't have anybody using a chute on the 1/8 mile. BUT, for the sake of the practice of how it feels, and how to pack it, and cycling it, there are those in our group that maybe should once in a while. They do need to be used now and then, and cycled. Would it help speed up the day or make things easier to let the starter know you plan to deploy the chute on a given pass? That way, they're not getting the other guys in line ready when there's going to be a 1-2 minute delay while the guy stops his car, unbuckles, gets out, wads it all up tosses it in, and gets going again. Basically, I'm putting a chute on the Civic, and I plan to cycle it once in a while. And I don't want to be "THEE" jackass holding up the show, or going about it in a way that the track folks DON'T want to see. I just don't want to see guys heating up on the line that don't need to be because .

KB After you pull the chute and you are slowed down enough, make the the turn to the pits and stop on the return road and gather it up. Thats what I had planned on doing. You should pull your chute at least once a race and stored unpacked. Rick

I was thinking a chute for a Civic couldn't be to much bigger than a garbage bag... I'll just drag it open all the way back to the pits. ;D j/k Remember doing that as a kid on your bike?

I am not the forum addmin, but hope he would move this post as it does not fall into pcms track info, belongs in drag racing or chit chat tks If you look, the original intent was to have the PCMS crew tell us how they'd like to have the laundry tossed and subsequently collected (in a manner that suits the IHRA.) I'm sure they don't want us standing in the track all afternoon. Likely there is a correct way to oversee it. Hence, if somebody from the track has the information, that would be swell. Doesn't effect a lot of folks. But it's a legit safety concern. I have no idea how to go about it. I feel, based on that, it's good PCMS track information. Kind of a "we don't care how it's done elsewhere", here's how we'd like it done at PCMS dragstrip.

In Minot they pull the chute on every run because of the short shut down. All of them make the turn on the return road and pick their chute's up then. Doesn't seem to hold up the show at all.
