Sounds like 90% of the sportsman cars could race in the street class. Why are you try to make the sportsman class so hard to race in. The bottom line is the tree. If you have a fast car u race a fast car if u have a slow bug u race a slow car. That is why we have time brakes. The street class is like a demo durby everyone reads the rules different and wants to get away with the most he can. The street classes i have seen are the 7.70 and 5.90 index. I don't know that it's a "class" as much as it is a one time thing to get people to come out of the woodwork. The cars you see on the street but never see at the track. Those guys. That's why things like the cruise are important to it's success. Not a lot of local 5.90 cars driving around that we need to worry about. Hell, not a lot of 7.70 cars that we need to worry about. A 30 mile cruise @65mph and some around town driving, no opening of the hood, etc, no changing of the DOT tires... those rules make for an interesting event.. and HOPEFULLY, they attract the right people. If it's the SAME cars we have now then it didn't work. If the cruise is you in the Vega, Dan in the Nova and me in the white Civic, cruising around on 93 octane fuel and then head to the track, we haven't attracted new and different street driven cars. The grass roots dudes with nice street cars. I don't want a chance to run my 10.90 bug with some dudes 5.90 car.... That's a crappy race and the cars aren't similar... at all. I'd like to race a similar car. As an example, a street car that runs 10.80-11.00 so you get that thrill of looking out window at the other driver, side by side all the way down. That's a good time! It's a different experience. You get to cruise, can't open the hood, can't add fuel or change tires. It's your street car. If a person wants to cheat, Cheat... but you're only fooling yourself with a car you built just for the event with a 300 shot on it, that you never actually drive on the street. For me a car you've taken to lunch, got the mail in. Gone to the grocery store with. Loaded up the family and gone to Ft Peck for dinner. Maybe even driven to Malta from wherever you live, just for the event. Those guys would be badass! We all know each other... It's not hard to remember who's been driving around and who hasn't. Who's car is actually just his dedicated drag car that lives in it's trailer, etc. I think there's a lot of pride to be had in the 8.00-14.00 second range that we are not getting to point out or see with any regularity.

I'LL TAKE IT! ;D Had the sun roof open and the CD player crankin! (on the return road). Thanks everybody for a good time. -Bob

Is this happening at the races right now? How about running this on saturday nights were the true street cars car use their head light and best of all no one racing up and down the streets. Just a thougt. I have both a true drag car that I run in super pro and a ws6 firebird I would like to let my wife run in this. A couple of years ago Minot ran a Saturday night shoot out for street cars and the rules were very confusing. The 30 mile road trip would have taken care of this issue. A coulpe of our wifes had use unhook the tow rigs and they ran them and had a blast.

Nothing ever came of it... So I'm officially declaring myself the current champion of that kind of thing. ...lol... Licensed, insured, daily driven, 93 octane, stock interior with a CD player and a powered sunroof. I could easily drive it cross country and still pull down 30mpg... HA! (the actual pass, to top it all off. See below) Eventually somebody else will make an effort and I'll be tossed WAY down the list until I finally have to say, "OH YEA?! well it's the fastest red car with green wheels within 200 feet of my driveway"... nobody park in my driveway or I'll have to update to perhaps 10 feet of my house... That's how those kinds of things go. ;D

We have a fun weekend at Cut Bank every year. Burnout contest on Friday night, followed by a lawn chair movie. Then on Sat., there is a breakfast, car show, free airplane and helicopter rides, airplane bowling ball bombing(they try to hit a car with a 16 lb ball), then we have have 1/8 mile drag races. You just go ask someone to race. We average 125 cars for the show and 60 for the races. Street cars, pickups, motorcycles, and full out race cars. Everyone has a lot of fun. The same guy that was running the timing lights on Sept. 19, 20 in Malta, also brings them to Cut Bank. That way you have time slip, so you can find someone that is running a compariable time to race. This all takes place at the airport in Aug. On another note, what class would my street car fit into? I have the factory bottom end on my LS1, factory tranny, but I have a Moser 12 bolt, Dart heads, big cam, headers, and more, full exhaust, full interior, drag radials. I've run a best of 8.05, with a spare tire and jack. The car even has 113k on the odometer, I even drive it about 5000 miles a year. Well, it's about time for the Montana Fun Weekend in Cut Bank this year. The date is set for Aug.20-22. Friday nite burnouts. Sat. car and airplane show, bowling ball bombing, and 1/8 mile nostalgia drag races. Bring any car you want, street or drag. It does'nt matter, just have a good time. cutbankairport.org/montana-fun-weekend
